About The Role

Join the RAC as a Technical Trainer and help colleagues across our automotive operation build the technical skills, practical knowledge and confidence to succeed.

As a Technical Trainer, you’ll support learning across a wide range of roles at the RAC. From welcoming new Patrol and SMR colleagues through induction to developing Apprentices and supporting non-technical teams, you’ll make complex automotive subjects clear, practical and relevant.

This isn’t just about delivering technical courses. You’ll provide both technical and skills-based training, adapting your approach to different audiences, experience levels and learning needs. You’ll help colleagues understand not only how to do their role, but how to do it safely, confidently and to the standards our members rely on.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver engaging technical and skills-based training to colleagues across the RAC.

  • Lead inductions for new Patrol, SMR and other operational colleagues.

  • Train and support Apprentices as they develop their automotive knowledge and practical skills.

  • Deliver learning to non-technical colleagues, making automotive and operational subjects easy to understand.

  • Provide practical, classroom and blended learning, adapting your style to suit different audiences.

  • Coach and assess learners, giving clear, constructive feedback that supports their development.

  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment where colleagues feel comfortable asking questions and practising new skills.

  • Use your automotive experience to bring training to life through relevant, real-world examples.

  • Work with operational and technical teams to ensure training reflects the changing needs of the RAC and our members.

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of training content and learning programmes.

What you’ll need

  • Strong automotive technical knowledge, ideally gained within vehicle maintenance, repair, diagnostics or roadside assistance.

  • The ability to turn technical information into clear, engaging learning for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Confident communication, presentation and coaching skills, with the ability to adapt to different learning needs.

  • A recognised automotive qualification, such as an IMI Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent.

  • A strong understanding of safe working practices and the importance of consistent technical standards.

  • Previous training experience or a recognised training qualification would be desirable, but it is not essential. We are more interested in your technical knowledge, communication skills and ability to help others learn.
