About The Role

RAC are on the lookout for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering Team. 

At the RAC, data is at the heart of our decision-making and innovation, and our Senior Data Engineers are central to delivering our technical vision delivering innovative solutions that impact millions of our members. 

In this role you will take ownership of designing and implementing robust technical solutions, driving innovation through the creation of high-quality data products. 

You will ensure the development of secure, scalable, and high-performance data processes. You will identify and integrate new tools, technologies, and methodologies that will enhance RAC's data services, improving both operational efficiency and the overall customer experience. You will bring a wealth of modern data warehousing tools and techniques to the team, collaboratively working on the best ways to build data products for our customers and colleagues.  

As a senior leader within the Data team, you will provide technical mentorship, coaching, and guidance to colleagues at all levels. 

The ideal candidate must be proficient within an agile delivery environment, and excellent knowledge of DBT & Snowflake, and other technologies including SQL, Airflow, Power BI & Azure Data Factory would be beneficial. The RAC engineering team revolves around a platform mindset, as a Senior Data Engineer, you will extend this culture and ensure that automation is at the heart of all the work we do. 

This role will be a hybrid role, where you will spend two days in our Bescot offices, and three days at home. 


What you will do… 

  • Develop high quality data products and ensure that solutions built by the data team have resilience in mind. 
  • Implement the technical strategy to ensure our systems and architecture remain relevant and capable of meeting the demands of the business. 
  • Provide Knowledge management for the Data estate. 
  • Keep up to date emerging technologies ensuring any new tools adopted in the RAC are fit for purpose and commercially appropriate. 
  • Engineer in required technologies laying foundations of best practices for the wider data team to follow.  
  • Take a leadership role within the Data team, providing coaching and mentoring to all levels of seniority. 
  • Influence interface with the business and make sense of complicated or incomplete requests 


What you will need… 

  • Great knowledge of technologies including but not limited to: DBT, SQL, Snowflake, Airflow, Azure Data Factory, PowerBI. 
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic and timeline sensitive work environment. 
  • A strong understanding of agile data development methodologies, values, and procedures. 
  • A thorough understanding of best practice in the data engineering lifecycle. 
  • Understanding of and a passion for automation 
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, organisation, and time management skills. 
  • Ability to help coach the team to reach their highest potential. 
  • “Self-motivated”, creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems. 
  • Be able to deal with multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
